About the teaching artist:
Auralynn Nguyen is a contemporary ikebana artist and instructor that aims to transform plant materials into “flower sculpture”. A student of the Sogetsu School, she follows the mantra made by Teshigaraha Sofu that “Ikebana can be made anytime, anywhere, and by anyone.” Initially taking lessons from Kaz Yokou Kitajima, she transitioned to living in Tokyo to focus on further ikebana studies that furthered her interest in philosophy on art and aesthetics.
In early 2023 she was chosen as translator and narrator by the Sogetsu Headquarters to encourage ikebana to an international audience. For the last several years, she has created works for store windows, showrooms and private residences during Modernism Week events in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. With a recent relocation to Claremont, California, she would like to integrate ikebana works into architectural spaces to create a spatial flower art.
Selected Exhibition participation:
Adam Silverman - Common Ground, Los Angeles, Calif. (2022)
Sogetsu Ikebana 100th Annual Exhibition, Tokyo, Japan (2019)
Sogetsu Ikebana 99th Annual Exhibition, Tokyo, Japan (2017)
